Happy 102nd birthday!

Virginia Gall celebrated her 102nd birthday March 31 at Sacred Heart Senior Living by the Creek, Northampton.

Virginia has never given much thought to reaching this age but has just continued living her life and kept busy. She spent her life taking care of her siblings, her nieces and nephews and then her own children and grandchildren.

She said she is very family oriented, especially being one of 14 children. She was very close with her siblings.

During her school days, she went to Broughal Middle School, where she performed as Pitti Sing in the play “The Mikado,” then went to Liberty High School.

Virginia met her husband, John, at a young age. He was her brother’s friend. They began dating in their teens and married at age 21. They had two children, and Virginia was a very active part of their lives.

Throughout her life, Virginia has enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and baking. She learned to sew to make clothing for her daughter. She also enjoyed helping at the church when needed.

Nowadays, Virginia enjoys listening to music, watching Hallmark, taking naps and spending quality time with her family, including her daughter, Pam; two granddaughters, Fayth and Heather; and three great-grandchildren, Cole, Lilah and Evelyn.

The quickest way to Virginia’s heart is definitely by just being kind, but if you really want to win her over, she is a sucker for chocolate milkshakes and soup, as long as there is no seafood in it.

That’s how her friend, LeighAnn, made her way into Virginia’s life. LeighAnn began working at Sacred Heart Senior Living, and they quickly became close friends. You can find the two making jokes with each other or indulging in their Starbucks drinks in the mornings.
