Salisbury police officers hold year’s first aggressive driving detail
Salisbury Township Police Department patrol officers held the first aggressive driving detail of 2022 along South Pike Avenue March 18.
Patrol Officer Bryan Losagio said the detail extended 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. using funds provided by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation aggressive driving program grant meant to mitigate speeding and other aggressive driving actions in Pennsylvania.
Losagio said 41 vehicles were stopped during the detail and 37 speeding tickets were issued. South Pike Avenue is notorious as a speedway for errant drivers.
Top speeds clocked by an electronic device were 74, 81 and 85 miles per hour in a posted 40 mph zone, Losagio said. One driver was cited after passing a school bus letting children off which resulted in a $424.50 fine and a mandatory 90-day license suspension. Another driver was cited for driving without a license.
“Officers will be out again in the near future under this grant,” Losagio said. “This was the first traffic safety detail of the year. It was a nice day with warm weather and we anticipated a busy day. We ask that everyone pays close attention to speed limit signs and never passes a stopped school bus with its red lights on. The safety of our residents and those passing through our township is an important priority for our officers.”
