According to Lehigh Commissioner and President Geoff Brace, a commisioners’ meeting scheduled for Dec. 30 was for “tie-breaker certifications.”
The meeting was tentatively scheduled to react to the results of an ongoing court case, but since no decision was reached in the case, there was no need for a meeting.
The results of the court case, which challenges whether undated mail-in vote should be counted, has not been decided. At issue is the election in a judgeship contest which left incumbent David Ritter (R) with more votes than challenger Zachary Cohen (D). If the contested votes are allowed, there is a strong possibility that the election could go to Cohen.
The issue does not keep other officials who were elected from taking their office when their municipalities have their annual reorganization meetings.
Lehigh County swore in five commissioners Jan. 3.
Incumbent Lehigh County Commissioners Jeffrey Dutt (R) and Geoffery Brace (D) were sworn in, along with newly-elected commissioners Zachary Cole Borghi (D), Anthony Pineda (R), and Ron Beitler (R).
