The Bethlehem Area School District’s transportation department’s ‘stuff the bus’ campaign was one of community generosity in its inaugural year as hundreds of toys, dozens of boxes of food and personal hygiene items, and thousands of dollars in cash were donated over three weekends of collection at two locations. “Our community was very generous and it makes my heart happy,” said BASD transportation general manager Jenny Robinson. Transportation staff delivered donations of food and hygiene products to the Northeast Community Center and toys to the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program Dec. 13. Robinson also expressed special thanks to the Route 191 Dollar Tree store for its cooperation in purchasing supplies with the donated cash. NECC executive director Paula Johnson said, “We are so grateful the BASD and everyone who participated to help our families.” She explained that food assistance and nutrition programs such as WIC and SNAP do not fund healthy snacks and hygiene products, which are the most requested items, so the ‘stuff the bus’ initiative met a particular need.
