Doris Mae Shireman, 97, of Nazareth and formerly of Northampton, died Dec. 1, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson campus. She was the wife of the late Paul W. Shireman.
Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Leon H. and Mazie H. (Dech) Hess.
She was a 1942 graduate of Northampton High School. She earned teaching credentials from Kutztown State Teachers College in 1945.
She was an elementary teacher for the Telford Area School District. She then transferred to the Catasauqua Area School District for 37 years before she retired in 1982.
She was a life member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Howertown, where she taught Sunday and Bible schools and helped with many programs.
She was a member of the CEA and NEA and was a life member of the PSEA. She earned the title of Master Teacher. She was a panelist on the former channel 39.
She is survived by a sister, Mary A. Smith of Bath; a brother-in-law, Guy Martin of Long Beach, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mindy and her husband Thomas Lees of East Palmer Township; two stepgrandsons, John-Paul and Brian; two nephews, Clark III and Donald; a niece, Kathy; and other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Hess; and a sister, Nancy Martin.
