LHS volleyball to hold clinics

Liberty volleyball coach Mike Zile will be hosting a four session clinic in February for K-5 students who are new to the game or those looking to sharpen their skills.

The sessions will take place on Feb 6, 13, 20 and 27 (Sunday’s) and will be split into two different times with third through fifth grade going from 1-2:30 p.m. and Kindergarten through second grade going from 2:45-4 p.m.

These sessions are open to both boys and girls.

The purpose of the clinic is to give both boys and girls an early start with the sport of volleyball. Volleyball has been a sport where both boys and girls get late starts compared to other youth sports.

Boys volleyball players sometimes do not get started until freshman year of high school. Girls volleyball players will start as early as 4th grade (CYO) and 7th grade (middle school).

Many schools in the Lehigh Valley now have middle school programs for both boys and girls. Zile is hoping to start middle school teams for the BASD boys in the near future. Even though the girls get started sooner it’s still later than every other organized sport. Zile wants kids started earlier with the sport so they know there’s an opportunity to play.

Net height will be modified and different types of balls will be used so the kids learn how to play competitive volleyball in an age appropriate way.

The cost of the clinic is $40. Participants will receive a Liberty volleyball T-Shirt at the February 27 session.

Checks can be made payable to and mailed to: “Hurricane Volleyball Boosters Association,” 5013 Allen Dr., Bethlehem, PA 18017

Payments can be accepted via Venmo. The Venmo account is @HurricanesVB and the name on the account is “Hurricane Volleyball Boosters” (under People). The 4 digit code is 1886.

There are a limited number of registration spots (max of 40 at each session / minimum of 10 spots reserved at each session for boys). All participants must be pre-registered for the clinic by no later than January 30. Please send in all payments at the time of registration and no later than January 30.
