Barbara Campbell receives Perennial Bloom Award

Parkland Garden Club member Barbara Campbell was recently awarded the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and the District II/III Car-SGC Perennial Bloom Award for 2021.

Garden club member Helen Papathanasiou commented on the award.

“This award is given to a longtime members, who like the faithful perennials in our gardens, have made our clubs grow and bloom with their continuous support of our goals and objectives,” Papathanasiou said. “Barbara has been involved with the Parkland Garden Club since 1975.”

According to Papathanasiou, Campbell has served twice as the Parkland Garden Club’s president.

She has been the garden tour chairwoman for 22 years, and serves as chairwoman for flower show, club program, bus tour, horticultural therapy, and more.

“She was the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl chairwoman for six years,” Papathanasiou said.

“Barbara has served as both the director and assistant director of GCFP District II/III for two years each.

“She received the PGC Laurel Award in 2005 and was appointed a member of the state board nominating committee in 2020.

“She is a life member of GCFP since 2015 and PGC Life Member since 2017.”

Campbell has attended schools for gardening, landscape design, and has earned her certification as a flower show judge.

She is one course away from completion of the environment school.

“Barbara Campbell has been an integral part of the growth and success of the Parkland Garden Club for more than 45 years and she is still blooming,” Papathanasiou said.
