Paul M. Mai

Paul M. Mai, 97, formerly of Catasauqua and Northampton, died Oct. 20, 2021, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn. He was the husband of the late Frances (Schwindenhammer) for 63 years.

Born in Fullerton, he was the son of Matthew and Marie (Parvel) Mai.

He worked for many years at Lehigh Portland Cement Company. He was the shipping and receiving supervisor at Fuller Sportswear, Fullerton, until he retired in December 1990.

He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catasauqua. He was for many years an Eucharistic minister and lector, trained altar servers and taught CCD and RCIA. He held leadership roles in the parish men’s organization, PTA and finance committee. He started the first block party and organized church bus trips.

He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a past Grand Knight of Westminster MD Council 1393.

He was president of Catasauqua Borough Council for six years.

He is survived by a son, Lawrence (Larry) and his wife Jean of Derby, Conn., with whom he resided; a daughter, Corinne and her husband Hayden (Mike) Henderson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Timothy and his wife Kathryn of Mint Hill, N.C., Katie and Kristopher Loretz of Monroe, N.C., and Becky and Brian McArthur of Ansonia, Conn.; six great-grandchildren, Macallan and Mitchell Mai, Aidan and Juliana Loretz and Claire and Grant McArthur; nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Ringo and Margaret Dobil.
