Macungie Institute HVAC system on hold

During the Nov. 15 Macungie Borough Council meeting, council was advised of the bids made for the HVAC system at Macungie Institute. There were five bids with Spotts Brothers having the lowest for $197,000. The bids were higher than expected due to excessive inflation.

The institute’s HVAC system is obsolete which makes any repairs very difficult. The cost to change the system with the lowest bid will not happen as the borough does not have the funds. Council approved the motion to reject all bids. This will be re-evaluated in six months.

The Macungie police provided a monthly report. There were 163 incidents for the month compared to October 2020 of 190 incidents. There have been 1,438 incidents this year.

Susquehanna Municipal Trust recognized Macungie Borough employees for no lost time for workplace injury claims in 2020.

A resident complained about a Facebook policy violation regarding the Macungie Institute. President John Yerman said this policy only pertains to the borough’s Facebook page.

Mayor Ron Conrad talked about the Sheeprock Trek on Thanksgiving Day which begins 5:45 a.m. at Kalmbach Park.

The mayor also said the borough will light the Christmas tree 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 in Macungie Flower Park.

There was an executive session regarding personnel issues.
