Pedestrian suffers fatal injuries when struck by a car in Lower Macungie Township

An 88-year-old woman was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle in the area of Donegal Drive, Lower Macungie Township, Oct. 1, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center and Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville.

Sonia D. Bowyer, of Lower Macungie Township, was pronounced dead 12:15 p.m. Oct. 4 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to a media release from the coroner’s office.

Investigators determined the cause of death to be multiple traumatic injuries due to a pedestrian and motor vehicle accident. The manner of death was found to be an accident.

Investigators learned Bowyer and an 87-year-old female, of Macungie, were crossing Donegal Drive, about 165 feet north of Village Lane at approximately 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1, when they were struck by a vehicle traveling west on Donegal Drive, according to a media release from Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville. The front bumper of the vehicle struck both women. The younger pedestrian sustained minor injuries.

The motorist was not injured in the accident.

Both pedestrians were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest campus, Salisbury Township.

Macungie Ambulance Corps also responded to the accident.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office is among investigating agencies.
