Roger H. Mayes, 87, formerly of Macungie, died Aug. 31, 2021, in DevonHouse Senior Living, where he was well liked and well taken care of. He was the husband of the late Carol Ann (Jarrett) Mayes. Born in the Panama Canal Zone, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ruth (Harding) Mayes.

He honorably served his country in the Marine Corps.

He was a police officer for the Allentown Police Department for 10 years, worked as a detective for four years and was a postal worker in Brewster, Mass. until retiring.

He is survived by children, Terri Mongiello, Scott, Valerie “Lollie” Smith, Ruth Swoyer, Jeffrey, Jacqueline Manz; a sister, Barbara and her husband, Francis Trentalange; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a twin brother, Bryce on Aug. 13, 2021 and a brother, Gerald.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Sept. 10 in Highland Memorial Park, 1441 Roth Ave., Allentown. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
