Sept. 11

Join the Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of quilt appreciation at eight locations throughout the Lehigh Valley. Porches, decks, lawns and fences at the homes of local quilters will be colorfully adorned with quilts. Travel from site to site to wander among the traditional and modern quilts and meet the artists who made them during this one-of-a-kind tour. Go to www.crazyquilters.org for details.

Sept. 12

Church of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ will celebrate its 50th anniversary commemorating the current church building at 135 Quarry Road. A 10:30 a.m. special worship service will be followed by a cornerstone ceremony, a luncheon and a presentation on the architecture and symbolism used in the church. Sept. 15

The Emmaus Historical Society will host its annual member appreciation picnic in the Moser Pavilion at Emmaus Community Park. Appetizers will be served 3 p.m. followed by dinner 4 p.m. Entrées and drinks are supplied by the society. Members are asked to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. Chance Basket Raffle at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury, 1707 Church Road, Allentown, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18. Sept. 23

An informational discussion about the American Chestnut and its fight to stay alive will be held 6-7 p.m. at Kalmbach Park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie. Organizers will have an experimental area where American Chestnuts will be planted in the park. The discussion will feature expert Tom Huff of the American Chestnut Society. Sept. 25

The Emmaus Rotary Club is hosting its fourth annual Topless Poker Run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alburtis Park to benefit local veterans. All proceeds from the event will be presented to Tails of Valor, a 501c3 organization, that raises and trains service dogs for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The poker run is open to all bikes, trikes and removable-top vehicles (hence the adjective, topless). After the run, there will be a luncheon, awards for best poker hand and the “coolest” bike/trike/other competition and several raffles.
