Coplay: Community Days begins Aug. 27 with Common Bond performance

Coplay Community Days is scheduled for Aug. 27-29 at Coplay Parkway, Second and Keefer streets.

Common Bond is set to perform 6-10 p.m. Aug. 27.

Other musical entertainment includes Steel Creek 1-4 p.m. and Sofa Kings 6-9 p.m. Aug. 28 and Josef Kroboth 12:30-3:30 p.m., Sue Rabenold and Michael Sherer 4-5 p.m. and the Large Flowerheads 6:15-9:15 p.m. Aug. 29.

Masks are optional.

The borough’s Parkway Pool, 2 Keefer St., closes for the season Aug. 30. Regular hours are noon-7 p.m. Twilight hours are 5 p.m. to closing, with the cost being $2 for residents and $5 for nonresidents.

Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee is offering two $500 scholarships to Coplay kids who just graduated from high school and who plan to attend a university or college, the police academy or a career/technical school.

Sept. 1 is the last scheduled summer concert series event. The Perfect Storm Duo, featuring Coplay native Rabenold and Sherer, will provide musical entertainment 6-9 p.m. at Coplay Community Plaza, North Second and Chestnut Streets.

The Coplay Senior Citizens group meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Commitment to Family and Community, 165 Cherry St.

Redeemed Christian Church of God, 5 N. Third St., is holding a block party 2-5 p.m. Sept. 11 inside and outside of the church. There will be African music and light refreshments.

The theme of the gathering is “Praising God the African Way.”

All are invited.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., is planning an Oktoberfest 2:30-7 p.m. Sept. 12. A parade kicks off the event 2:30 p.m. There will be music by Joe Kroboth 3-7 p.m.

Other features include the Auerhahn Schuhplattler dancers, an Oktoberfest singalong and a Masskrugstemmen contest. There will also be imported German beers and authentic German food.

Coplay Athletic Club is seeking new and renewal members. The gym is located on the second floor of the Coplay Municipal Building, 98 S. Fourth St.

A gym membership costs $90 per year and $70 for renewals.

Upcoming entertainment at Coplay Saengerbund includes a Doubting Thomas performance Aug. 27 and a polka dance Aug. 29, with the performer to be announced. For the Friday show, the gates and bar open 5 p.m., with the kitchen opening 5:30 p.m. The gates and bar will open 2 p.m., with the kitchen opening 3 p.m., for the Sunday polka.

There is a cost for members and guests. Members can sign in two people.
