History lessons

PRESS PHOTOS BY CHRISTINA SANTO Whitehall Historical Preservation Society is welcoming visitors to a series of open houses this month at the Helfrich Springs Grist Mill and the Peter Grim Homestead, Mickley and Lehnert roads.
A sign placed on the grounds offers details on the grist mill. The Peter Grim Homestead can be seen in the background. There's still time to see and hear some history, as two more open houses remain on the schedule, set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 24 and 31.
A mill grinding stone sits along a path on the property. Grinding stones were used to grind wheat and other grains into a flour-like powder.
