Wanderers Legion remains undefeated

Dwight Pulieri knows his Wanderers Legion squad has played well to start this season, but is also cognizant that there’s more work to do.

The Wanderers have jumped out in NORCO to an 11-0 start to stay in first place in the league heading down this week’s final stretch of the regular season calendar.

“It’s not where you start, but how you finish,” said Pulieri. “A good start certainly helps.”

The team has been firing on all cylinders this season, as they scored 106 runs and allowed only 20 through 11 games. The only team that is that same class is Northampton (11-2), who have scored 124 runs and given up 36 so far this season, as they are in the second place in the league.

Both, the Wanderers and Northampton appear to be on a collision course toward a potential championship series when the playoffs finally get underway on July 5, as both teams are the deepest and most talented in the league this year.

“Like we said before we have good balance with all our players on the roster and I think that and strong pitching has carried us to this point,” said Pulieri. “This year’s team is as talented as any previous team but talent only gets you so far. How successful we are this year depends upon how everyone accepts their roles and focuses on what’s best for the team.”

This year’s playoffs will have eight teams qualifying for the playoffs, as long as they have a .500 or better record, which could be interesting as only five teams, Wanderers, Northampton, Wind Gap (7-3-1), Nazareth (7-4) and Birches (6-5-1) were above water this week.
