SES PTO hosts annual ice cream festival

Salisbury Elementary School held its annual ice cream festival June 5.

The community event was held outside of the building, due to the pandemic, with masks and social distancing protocol in place. Despite the over 90 degree temperature, the multi-attraction event drew approximately 500 people.

Volunteer parents, teachers and students manned carnival games, mini-golf and speed pitch for attendees. Special guests entertained the crowd: Magician Doug Wonder from “I See Magic,” caricature artist Alexander Clare, of Bethlehem, and the Falcon mascot, assisted by school board Director Sarah Nemitz.

First responders from Eastern and Western Salisbury fire departments were present to display their fire gear and trucks. Salisbury police were present to offer free phone number magnets for adults and kid police officer badge pins for the children.

Salisbury Youth Association volunteers and Boy Scouts had tents in place for those interested in joining either organization.

Food and beverages were provided by Kona Ice, Mon and Mel’s Sweet Scoops Ice Cream Truck, Taco Town and Van Pelt Hot Dog Truck.

Nicoll Spinner, president of SES’s PTO was grateful for the overwhelming support for the festival.

“After what was such a crazy school year and the cancellation of last year’s event, the PTO was extremely excited to be able to host the decades-long community tradition of the ice cream festival. The festival is something many community members, old and young look forward to.

Thank you so much to all the families that joined us for the ice cream festival. The entire PTO board sincerely hopes you all had a wonderful time with your friends, community members and families. Hope to see you all again next year,” Spinner said.
