Donald W. Reinert

Donald W. Reinert, 82, of Lenhartsville, died June 20, 2021, in the Laurel Center, Lenhartsville.

He was the widower of L. Carol (Miller) Reinert, who died last August.

Born in New Tripoli, he was a son of the late George H. and Luella (Snyder) Reinert.

A 1956 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Penn State University in 1960, with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture education, he did postgraduate work at Penn State, East Stroudsburg University and the University of Minnesota.

A vocational agriculture teacher in the Pen Argyl School District from 1960-65 and the Kutztown Area School District from 1965-90, he was a nutrient management specialist for the Berks County Conservation District from 1992-2004.

He did private consulting for environmental assessments of poultry farms for Environmental Management Solutions LLC, Des Moines, Iowa, for three years.

He also was a partner on his family’s farm from 1996 to the present.

He was in the Army Reserves from 1956-64 where he was involved in constructing the Stone Valley Recreation Area and was a pianist for the Sunday church services.

As a member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church, he was past president and served on church council, was president of the Sunday School and taught for more than 50 years, and was with the Sunday School Orchestra for more than 50 years.

Throughout his life, he was involved in many organizations.

He was a member of the Kempton Lions Club, where he previously served as president and secretary; Lions Club International, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow; past president of Kutztown Groundhog Lodge 15 and Pa. German Fersommling; past secretary of the Grossdaadi Groundhog Lodge, and was a hunter safety instructor for the Pa. Game Commission for more than 20 years.

A state officer with the Pa. Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, he was past livestock superintendent, and current director emeritus for the Kutztown Fair Association.

An advisor for the Kutztown Young Farmer’s Association for 20 years, he was a public speaker for the Pa. German Dialect, and a member of both the Kempton Fire Company and the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society.

His survivors include a daughter Lisa Reinert of Quakertown; sons Wayne Reinert of Lenhartsville, and Paul Reinert, and wife, Mary, of Kensington, Conn.; brother Sterling Reinert, and wife, Doreen, of Slatington; sister Lucille Heintzelman of New Tripoli; grandchildren Michelle and Cynthia Reinert of Connecticut; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Reynold Reinert and wife, Grace, and brother-in-law Dennis Heintzelman.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. June 26 at Weisenberg Lutheran Church, 7645 Weisenberg Church Road, New Tripoli, with the Rev. Jerel Gade officiating. Visitation will take place 5:30-6:30 p.m. June 25 at Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St., Fogelsville, and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment at church cemetery.
