Children can make a butterfly feeder June 28

Lower Macungie Library has Lobby Library 10 a.m. to noon and 3-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Lower Macungie Community Center lobby while the library is closed for repairs due to flooding. There will be a selection of books, DVDs and puzzles available for checkout.

The book drop is now open; any items due since April 26 are now due Aug. 3.

The adult summer reading program began June 14 and will run through Aug. 7. For each review written on a book, magazine, audiobook, music, TV or movie, the participant will receive a raffle entry for gift cards to local businesses.

Stories in the Park will be held 10-10:30 a.m. June 23 and 30 at Kalmbach Park, weather permitting. Miss Lisa will read stories and sing songs. Registration is required.

Sunny Day Storytime will be held 10-10:30 a.m. June 17 and 24 outside the library building, weather permitting.

Grab and Go craft kits for kids with a new activity each week are available for pickup Mondays in a box by the outdoor book drop. Supplies are limited.

As part of the summer library program Tails and Tales, there will be a reading buddy adoption event 5-7 p.m. June 21 and 10 a.m. to noon June 22. Children can pick out a special reading buddy to read to this summer. Sign up is required.

Fly, Butterfly, Fly will be held 6-7 p.m. June 28 at Kalmbach Park. Children will hear stories about butterflies and make a butterfly feeder/puddler to take home. Registration is required.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for July 7 is “A Promised Land” by Barack Obama. The book for Aug. 4 is “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett. The book club meets virtually.

Lower Macungie Pool will be open daily 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 29. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 21 and 28, July 8 and 23 for swim meets. Adult lap swim will be available 6-7 a.m. and 7-8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings. Preregistration is required. Swim lessons are also available.

Summer concerts are back. Swamp Guard (alternative/roots-rock) will play 6-8:30 p.m. June 25. Flamin’ Dick and the Hotrods will perform 6-8:30 p.m. July 10. Island Time will perform 6-8:30 p.m. July 16. All concerts take place at the Hills at Lockridge Park, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

Lower Macungie Township offers live Zoom classes in belly dancing, Pilates and Tai Chi. New for ages 12-adults: the township is offering scuba diving classes. There will be a SafeSitter class for ages 11 and up noon to 5 p.m. July 10. A crayfish catch for ages six through 12 years will be offered 9-11 a.m. July 24 at Camp Olympic. The community center is open to the public while following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The center will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no free open gym at this time. Public restrooms are not available. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.

Curbside collection of grass clippings continues weekly. There will be curbside collection for yard waste on the weeks of June 28 and July 14 on the day after regular trash collection.

The summer yard waste center hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off.
