Special to The Press

Volunteer firefighters from the Weisenberg and Fogelsville fire departments gathered May 22 on the I-78 overpass on Route 863 to honor a fallen firefighter.

Spring Township, Berks County, firefighter Robert Desch died May 9 from COVID-19. Rob, as he was known, is the brother of Laurys Station Volunteer Fire Company’s Capt. Matthew Desch.

Weisenberg and Fogelsville firefighters erected their large flag up on the I-78 overpass to honor Desch, whose memorial services took place that day.

The funeral procession then traveled east on I-78 to Schisler Funeral Home, Northampton, where the viewing and funeral service took place.

Desch’s final resting place is in St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Laurys Station.
