Special to The Press

The Parkland School Board recently approved an agreement between Alvin H. Butz Inc. and the district for construction management services relating to the Kratzer Elementary School addition.

The fee for predesign, preconstruction, construction and direct reimbursable expenses is not to exceed $935,767 for the construction management portion of the project.

The plan presented by KCBA architectural firm to the board during recent budget preparations includes 18,500 square feet of new construction and renovation.

Eight classrooms for fourth- and fifth grades, a media center, office, TV studio, learning support center and small instruction room are shown in the new wing.

The existing library will be transformed into classroom and support spaces.

There also will be various renovations throughout the present building.

Kindergarten rooms, corridors, the music room and a third grade room will receive new ceilings, flooring and paint.

The section embracing the current library will involve some demolition, new ceiling lights, flooring and modifications to the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems.

Two toilet rooms will be added for kindergartners.

Total anticipated project cost is $10,748,905.

The time line specifies advertising for bids in December with bids due Jan. 26, 2022.

Bids are expected to be presented to the board for a vote in March 2022, which would lead to a notice to proceed.

Construction start is planned for April 4, 2022, with final completion expected by Aug. 4, 2023, for a total 16 months work activity at the Kratzer site.
