Farewell Fest to be held May 22

During the pandemic, students have overcome several challenges and persevered through changes in the way they learn. The entire high school experience came to a screeching halt in March of 2020, but as Lehigh County and this country continue to push through and improve in cases, different high school privileges and events have become a possibility once again.

The graduating Class of 2020 missed out on many fun and somewhat sentimental senior activities; the most missed being prom. Until recently the idea of having a prom or any senior activities was indefinite.

With the new hybrid model of learning being used at the high school, many seniors have missed out on seeing their classmates and friends. COVID-19 restrictions have been strictly followed in the school district allowing for the seniors to have a “prom” and for our schools to slowly progress toward normality.

Instead of a traditional prom, this year’s Class of 2021 will be enjoying a Farewell Fest, coordinated by their class advisers. The semi formal, Farewell Fest, merges the leisure senior activities with a formal prom.

The main goal behind the fest is to allow seniors to have their moment of enjoyment and spend time with their classmates. Some seniors feel cheated out of a prom, as other schools are oddly managing to put on proms while others are glad to have something for their senior year. Sometimes something is better than nothing, right?

The Farewell Fest will take place 7-10 p.m. May 22 in Salisbury High School’s stadium.

“The event will include a DJ, caricaturists, sandwiches and snacks, an ice cream truck, photo backdrops, lawn games and most importantly, a chance to spend time with your classmates.

“Each Salisbury senior who attends will receive a special gift. Just this week it was decided the seniors have the option of bringing a guest,” Class adviser Megan Basile said.

They will be organizing and decorating to “transform the stadium into a casual but elegant garden party.”

Tickets are being sold online. Seniors are greatly encouraged to attend this event to make it the most it can be and to relish in these final days of high school.

That’s all for this week; stay tuned for more student news.
