Plans for Martin site take first step

The developers of the former Martin Tower site, Norton Hetrick and Louis Ronca, received approval from the Planning Commission March 11 to add a new driveway to the site, that would connect at Eighth Avenue at Plaza Drive, making a four-way intersection.

They also asked to include permission to add more parking and to reduce the rear yard setback to accommodate the changes. The developers plan to commence work on the site before the end of the year. The plan is for a mixed medical, restaurant and residential complex.

Parking was the theme of the brief meeting. Nelson Tavarez Jr., the owner of Austin’s Auto Service at 1843 West Broad St., asked permission to add more parking to his property. Tavarez has owned and operated Austin’s since 2011. The commission was happy to agree.

The recommendations go to city council, which gives final approval.
