Dean’s list is announced

Widener University announced the students who achieved dean’s list recognition for fall 2020. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who earned a grade-point average of 3.5 and above for the semester.

Gettysburg College

Students earn dean’s lists

Bella Hoffman, of Whitehall, has been placed on the deans’ commendation list for outstanding academic achievement in the fall 2020 semester. Students with a quality-point average of 3.3-3.599 for a semester’s work are placed on the deans’ commendation list.

Leah McCann, of Northampton, has been placed on the dean’s honor list for outstanding academic achievement in the fall 2020 semester. Students with a QPA of 3.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale for a semester’s work are placed on the dean’s honor list.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with a strong academic tradition that includes Rhodes scholars, a Nobel laureate and other distinguished scholars among its alumni. The college enrolls 2,600 undergraduate students and is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.

Kutztown University

Degrees conferred

Kutztown University has conferred degrees for more than 480 students for the 2020 fall semester and 2021 winter session. Kutztown announces degree conferment twice a year - once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The cumulative GPA necessary for honors distinction is cum laude, 3.4; magna cum laude, 3.6; and summa cum laude, 3.8.

Dean’s list is announced

Wilkes University interim Provost Terese Wignot announced the dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must obtain a minimum 3.5 GPA and carry at least 12 credits.

Kleintop earns president’s honors list

The University of Hartford is pleased to announce Leah Kleintop, of Coplay, has been named to its president’s honors list for the fall 2020 semester. The president’s honors list is made up of an extremely select group of students who earned a GPA of 3.75 or higher in the semester. This is the GPA that must be sustained over a full undergraduate career to qualify for a degree summa cum laude.

Spread across seven dynamic schools and colleges, the University of Hartford has been guiding the purpose and passion of students for more than six decades. On the 350-acre campus alongside Connecticut’s capital city, approximately 5,000 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students from 48 states and countries come together for a common purpose: to collaborate across different disciplines, diversify perspectives and broaden world views.

Adelphi University

Aquilina makes dean’s list

Kaitlyn Aquilina, of Whitehall, has been named to Adelphi University’s fall 2020 dean’s list. Aquilina was among a select group of outstanding students recognized by Adelphi’s deans of arts and sciences, education and health science, business, nursing and public health, social work and psychology for superior academic performance. The list comprises full-time students registered for 12 or more credits who have completed at least nine graded credits and achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above for the semester. This recognition becomes part of the student’s academic record and is entered into the individual’s transcript.

Kutztown University

Students inducted into national society

Kutztown University inducted 110 students into the National Society of Leadership and Success as part of the fall 2020 class. To be inducted at KU, students must attend an orientation, a three-hour leadership training seminar, three success networking team meetings and three speaker broadcasts featuring leading figures delivering success-related messages.

University of Rhode Island

Wagner earns dean’s list

The University of Rhode Island announced Paighton Wagner, of Bath, was named to the dean’s list for fall 2020. Students with this honor represent nearly all of Rhode Island’s cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey and many other states and countries. To be included on the dean’s list, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.3 QPA. Part-time students qualify with 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.3 GPA.

As a public land grant university in a highly competitive region, URI carefully monitors and manages its tuition and fee rates to remain one of the most affordable universities in the Northeast for both in-state and out-of-state students. An estimated 90 percent of undergraduate students receive annual financial aid and institutional support. The university’s total fall 2020 enrollment of 17,649 students comprises 15,393 undergraduate students, including 748 pharmacy six-year professional practice and 2,256 full- and part-time graduate students. About 52 percent of the total student body is from Rhode Island and 48 percent are from out of state or foreign countries. The student body includes students from 48 U.S. states and territories and 67 nations.

Marselles, Mickley inducted into honor society

The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, recently initiated Jessica Marselles, of Whitehall, and Lauren Mickley, of Northampton.

They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann, who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Today, the society has chapters on more than 325 campuses in the United States and the Philippines. Its mission is “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

Chung inducted into honor society

Cedar Crest College

Crush inducted into national honor society

On March 26, Tiffany Crush, of Northampton, was inducted into Alpha Alpha Alpha, or Tri-Alpha, a national honor society for first-generation college students. The honor society was founded in 2018 at Moravian College in Bethlehem.

Located in Allentown, Cedar Crest College was selected as a Top Regional College and a Best Value in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings from 2012 to 2019 and a Best College for Veterans in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. The college was recognized as a 2018-19 College of Distinction, and the School of Adult and Graduate Education was ranked a Top 25 school for nontraditional students by Best College Reviews in 2017. Cedar Crest was ranked by College Choice as the No. 12 best women’s college in 2016. Founded in 1867, Cedar Crest enrolls approximately 1,700 students in more than 50 fields of study.
