Make Catty shine

Catasauqua Borough community members are called to clean up their streets of trash and debris as part of the Clean Up Your Block event. To further beautify the area, residents are encouraged to put chalk drawings on sidewalks for Chalk Your Walk.

The event, organized by Leslie Estrada, Catasauqua High School teacher and Catasauqua Main Streets member, and Jenna Potak, Catasauqua Police Department school resource officer, is scheduled for 8 a.m.-noon April 24.

“Take pictures of your block after you and your neighbors have cleaned it up and added some chalk art,” a Facebook post announcing the event suggests.

Send photos to JD Potak on Facebook or L.Estrada.Community@gmail.com to be featured on the Catasauqua Police Department, Catasauqua Main Streets and Catasauqua Area School District social media pages.

Estrada and Potak plan to hide some of Potak’s painted rocks for residents to find on the cleaned blocks. The JD Potak Rocks community morale initiative began in September 2020. She paints cheerful messages on rocks and places them in community areas for people to find - in hopes of bringing a smile to their day.

The Clean Up Your Block event is planned as an observance of Earth Day, April 22.
