Volunteers needed for roadside clean up

The Kempton Lions Club, in cooperation with the Albany Township Environmental Advisory Council and board of supervisors, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, PennDOT and The Kempton Hotel, has established a roadside cleanup program for Albany Township, Berks County.

The cleanup will be 8:30 a.m. to noon on April 17. Rain date is 1 p.m. April 18.

If weather is a factor, check Kempton Lions Club Facebook page at facebook.com/KemptonPALionsClub/ that morning for the status.

Participation is limited to those age 13 and older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Clean up will not be done on the busier portions of Routes 143 and 737, but will be done in Kempton Village.

Safety gloves, vests, and trash bags will be provided but participants may bring their own.

Meet 8:30 a.m. at the Kempton Fire Company parking lot, 2461 Route 143, Kempton, for instructions.

Teams will then depart at 9 a.m.

The Kempton Hotel is generously providing coupons to cleanup participants for 10 percent off a total food purchase.

Anyone involved with a group that is interested in participating, may contact John at 610-756-6969 or capjohn6969@gmail.com.

Otherwise, just show up at the fire company.
