The Parkland School Board has approved an agreement to reserve the PPL Center for graduation on June 8.
The indoor traditional commencement ceremony, however, is still not definite, depending on COVID-19 precautions.
School district Director of Community Relations Nicole McGalla said the district wanted to have the PPL Center available, if it is possible to proceed with the typical graduation.
“We’re not sure yet,” McGalla said. “We are definitely exploring other options, such as outdoors.”
In another matter at the recent meeting, school directors took action to update the fleet of buses, and accepted a bid from Wolfington Body Co. to purchase four, 72-passenger buses for $372,352.
The cost of each bus is $93,588 and the district receives a small trade-in credit.
Directors also approved buying one 36-passenger bus from Wolfington at $85,280.
On another topic, the board approved a quotation of $5,800 from Bellview Pumps to drill two, 40-foot monitoring wells at the high school wastewater treatment plant.
Regarding that same matter, a proposal from Barry Isett and Associates for oversight and surveying of the two monitoring wells was approved.
This professional service comes with a fee of $4,300.
Under construction change orders, the district gained $28,830 from Myco Mechanical for an unused contract allowance for the Schnecksville Elementary School improvement project.
On the other hand, the district has to pay an additional $9,850 for construction of a curb along Twin Ponds Road near Veterans Memorial Elementary School.
Changes in grading by PennDOT and unsuitable soil on Schantz Road brought on the need for a curb in that location.
In a personnel item, the board accepted the retirement of Mark Stutz, director of visual and performing arts at the high school, effective Jan. 4, 2022.
