Volleyball action heating up for teams
It’ll be a jam packed week of volleyball action on the calendar for local teams, as the season picks up with a full slate of on this week’s docket.
Liberty (1-2) and Freedom (2-3) will have five and four matches respectively this week, as they look to build some momentum through the middle of the month.
The Hurricanes are coming off a three-game sweep to Parkland last week and a sweep to Nazareth on Monday, but head coach Mike Zile took positives away from their outing against one of the EPC’S elite programs.
“The scores against Parkland (21-25, 13-25, 13-25) look lopsided especially in games two and three,” said Zile. “We had some inconsistencies with ball control that affected hitting in those games. I think we are a better team that.
“In the first game, we had a lead and were close with Parkland until about the 16 point mark. In the other games Parkland pulled away earlier around the 10 point mark. Parkland is always strong where it’s a good measuring stick as to where we are at and where we need to improve.”
The Hurricanes take on Emmaus Wednesday, followed by matches with Pocono Mountain West on Thursday, Whitehall on Friday and Freedom on Saturday.
“It’s a short season where this week in particular we are going to have five matches,” Zile said. “We have a good mixture of volleyball playing experience and some young talent where I think we have the ability to make adjustments in between these matches with limited practice sessions. The challenge for all teams will be seeing who can adjust the fastest on limited practices due to reschedule matches.”
Freedom (3-3) had dropped three straight to Northampton, Parkland and Easton after wins against Allen and Dieruff, but bounced back with a win over Pocono Mountain East on Monday. They look to keep the momentum going against Pocono Mountain West on Wednesday.
They then have matches with Nazareth and Liberty on Thursday and Friday.
Bethlehem Catholic (2-4) has a tough stretch with Emmaus, Whitehall and Dieruff this week.
