Boys lacrosse team happy to be back on the field

The Northampton boys lacrosse team is just happy to be back this season.

While there are a handful of seniors on the team, most of the roster is made up of underclassmen.

This year’s seniors are: Alexis Cruz, Ethan Davis-Luizer, Braedan Gehris, Chris Hedden, Jonathon Mannino, Samuel Nelson, Zion Raub and Aidan Reinhard.

“The roster is dominated by underclassman in terms of numbers of players,” said head coach Geoff Chenworth. “If the freshman and sophomore classes were at any of the traditionally strong Lehigh Valley lacrosse programs, they’d be competing very successfully on a JV team. But because of our smaller junior and senior classes, several sophomores and a few freshman have been pressed into service at the varsity level.

“The challenge for our team will be to get the key leadership from upperclassmen and for younger players to learn how to rise up and compete.”

Braeden Lower is the lone freshman listed on the roster. Sophomores are: Parker Christman, Carson Czarnecki, Tucker Ellis, Kaden Hooven, Jack Mengel, Aidan Micheli and Dominic Walnock. Juniors are: Dylan Bauer, Wyatt Cobb, Joseph Confer, Michael Drozd, Maycen Harryn, Devin Petri and Jason Rice.

With the season canceled last year, it’s safe to say everyone was ready to go this season.

“After having lost the spring season last year, the players and coaches have been enthusiastic to get back to playing lacrosse,” Chenworth said.

Despite a roster made up of a majority of underclassmen, the Kids have lofty goals for this season.

“The teams overarching goal is to have a winning record and compete in playoffs,” Chenworth said. ”In order to accomplish that goal, we’ll need to develop confidence in our individual abilities, teammates and our offensive and defensive systems.”
