Lehigh supervisors OK project changes

In a night of routine business Feb. 23, Lehigh Township supervisors discussed the Cherryville intersection, where more trees have been removed and a new change order is required to relocate and replace lights by Amey’s Garage, 4228 Lehigh Drive, at a cost of $34,000.

Chairwoman Cindy Miller commented the township can’t keep paying for change orders.

“The grant only pays for so much,” Miller said. “You’re going to have the unknown, but this seems highly specialized.”

She said if environmental issues arise as a result of the change, the cost should fall on the owner.

The board voted to approve the change order.

Resolution 2021-4, establishing fees for zoning and building permits, was adopted, with the changes effective immediately. A full transcript of the resolution is available on the township website, lehightownship.com.

A motion to advertise proposed Ordinance 2021-2 pertaining to bed-and-breakfast criteria was approved.

Supervisors discussed a proposed zoning map amendment that would impact Cherryville Road, making it higher density housing. It was noted the planners don’t want high density and would rather see more single-family homes. It was also mentioned many properties on Cherryville Road and Locust Drive have no public sewer. The board tabled the issue to discuss later.

The recreation board was awarded a $3,000 mini-grant.

The board allocated $27,000 to the fire company with a note from Miller that she wants to meet with the fire department members to discuss the funds.

“They ask for smaller trucks, and we won’t have money for the big truck,” Miller said. “[The big truck] can’t happen in three years, especially if they keep depleting the fund with smaller requests.”
