EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My family consists of my two parents, Andrea and Thomas, my three younger siblings, Kate, Joshua and Emma and my one fish, Twinkie.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject in school was the AP psychology class I took my junior year. I enjoyed this class because I loved being able to learn about the brain and how it shapes who we are and what we perceive. I also found it very interesting to learn about all of the different theories of psychology and the ways that people think and act.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have received the Principal’s Honor Roll the past three years and have also been awarded the Principal’s Academic Excellence Award, which is given for having a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher, for those past three years as well. I am also a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. At EHS, I am involved in NHS, Hornet Ambassadors and the EHS Dance Team. I am also a part of the That’s Dancin’ Competition Team. COVID-19 has hindered both of my dance teams to participate in competitions and to do the normal activities we usually do, especially at the high school, like performing at basketball games and Homecoming and going to Orlando, Fla. to attend nationals.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date is that I am a perfectionist. I am very hard on myself when it comes to my grades or my dancing abilities. However, I have started to learn to take a step back and realize that making a mistake is OK and everything will be fine. Ultimately, I can learn from those mistakes.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan on attending Penn State University to major in either psychology or history on a prelaw track.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my mom because she has taught me hard work truly pays off. She has a busy life with work and family and she has shown me how to succeed at both. She also has taught me to be kind to others and to always be thankful for what you have.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my hard work ethic, my kindness and uplifting attitude and for being a compassionate and caring friend.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Be yourself. Don’t try to be someone who you are not. In past years, I have struggled with my self-confidence and I was always trying to fit in and change who I was to impress others and to be like others. I have come to realize that each and every person is made different and you should not be afraid to be who you truly are.
