Arifaj announces bid for seat on Northwestern School Board

Melissa Arifaj has announced her candidacy to serve as a board member of the Northwestern Lehigh School District.

“I was born and raised a proud Tiger having been a student of the Northwestern Lehigh School District from kindergarten through grade 12,” Arifaj said. “You cannot properly put into words all that Northwestern is and does for its students.

“The commitment from the school and community is immeasurable.”

Arifaj says the school district made sure she had all the tools she needed to go out into the world, learn, grow and make a difference in the lives of others and it provided an incredible foundation upon which to build a life.

“Many years have passed since I walked the halls at Northwestern,” Arifaj said. “While things tend to naturally evolve and change, Northwestern Lehigh still remains steadfast in its commitment to student growth and development.”

Arifaj says as parents to three young ladies, her husband and she wanted the same nurturing experience for them as they find their way in the world.

“We couldn’t be more proud to be part of this community and special place we call home,” Arifaj said.

“It is my honor to show my unwavering commitment to this district and community as I seek election to serve as a board member of the Northwestern Lehigh School District.

“I will do all I can to provide all children with the same empowering start that makes Northwestern Lehigh such an exceptional community and school district.”

Arifaj says she is eager to help the community in such a meaningful way and to advocate for all shareholders, especially our children - our future.

“I will work collaboratively with our stakeholders and to be a voice to support and strengthen the vision and mission of our district,” Arifaj said. “We will continue to be a pioneer in the Lehigh Valley by providing our children with the best opportunities to challenge and deepen learning while also cultivating social and emotional growth and resiliency.”

Arifaj has served as a teacher in the Whitehall-Coplay School District for the last 15 years.

“During my career I have continued to seek out new challenges and opportunities for growth and leadership in all areas of my life,” she explained.

After graduating from Cedar Crest College with degrees in elementary education and Spanish, Arifaj completed her Master’s degree in education from Wilkes University.

She also earned certifications in curriculum and instruction, and principal, kindergarten through grade 12.

“I look forward to combining that Northwestern Tiger pride with my strong background in education and leadership to continue to drive the vision and mission of Northwestern Lehigh forward. Go Tigers!,” Arifaj said.
