William E. Schaffer
William E. Schaffer, 92, of Macungie, died Feb. 26, 2021, in The Willow, Macungie. He was the husband of Eleanor R. (Fasching) Schaffer. Their love was one of a kind and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary Nov. 24, 2020. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late William E. Schaffer Sr. and Euphemia (Brosky) Schaffer.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 97th General Hospital and a 32nd Degree Mason at Lehigh Lodge #326, Macungie.
He was a member of Solomon’s United Church of Christ, Macungie, where he served in the choir.
He worked at Mack Trucks, retiring in 1983 and afterward he served as an ambassador at their Macungie facility. After retirement, he served as township supervisor for Upper Milford Township, president of the Emmaus Public Library and worked for Keystone Engineering. He was also a member of the Macungie VFW Burial Squad. While raising his family in Bethlehem, he was active in the Northwest Little League and the Boy Scouts.
He enjoyed cruises and traveling the world and the United States with his wife. He enjoyed driving his World War II Jeep and his many tractors. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and most recently playing trains and trucks with his great-grandson, Patrick.
He is survived by his wife; son, William D. and his wife, Kathy, of Bethlehem; a daughter Bonnie L. and her husband, Gary Cole, of Macungie; a sister, Anna M. Benner, of Macungie; grandchildren, Kellie L. and her husband, Thomas Kesler, Kristie M. and her husband, Nathaniel DeNicola, Timothy W. and Jessica L. and a great-grandson, Patrick J. Kesler. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Scholl.
Contributions may be made in his memory to Lehigh Valley Health Network Hospice and the Macungie VFW Chapter 9264.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. March 6 in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton streets, Allentown, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Greenwood Cemetery. A calling hour will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 6 in the funeral home.
