Ryan Chu, assistant chief for the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department, provides firefighters from Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company a familiarization tour of Eastern's new rescue truck Jan. 25 as part of the weekly training night for both fire companies. Extensive familiarization sessions for Eastern's rescue technicians started when the rescue truck arrived at ESFD in mid-December. Both Eastern Fire Chief Ian Dodson and Western Fire Chief Joshua Wells agreed since the two fire departments routinely are called on to respond together, it was important for rescue workers from both companies to understand what tools are available and where the tools are located on the new truck. Pulling up to the scene of an emergency is no time for on-the-job training both chiefs agreed. “When seconds count, you need to know how you are going to work together,” Dodson and Wells agreed.
