Donald R. Oswald, 93, of Fellowship Community, Whitehall, formerly of Schnecksville, died Jan. 22, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He was the husband of the late Arlene M. (Wessner) Oswald.
Born Dec. 12, 1927, in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Verna I. (Wartzenluft) Oswald.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during a peacetime era during the occupation of Japan in 1946-47.
A 1950 graduate of the former Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, he was on the technical staff of the former Bell Laboratories (Lucent Technology) for 34 years before retiring in 1986.
He earned five patents and published several papers on semiconductor devices.
A member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg Township, he was a past master of Slatington Lodge 440, F.&A.M., and a member of Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington, and the Telephone Pioneers.
His survivors include daughters Carol A., wife of Gailen M. Hausman, and Karen L., wife of Eric D. Wolfgang, all of Germansville; grandchildren Amy N. and Bradley S. Hausman; and great-grandchildren Andi, Alex and Julianna.
He was predeceased by brothers Marvin, Clair, Bruce, Ivan and Dallas Oswald.
A private graveside service will be held at Heidelberg Union Cemetery, Heidelberg Township. There will be no public calling hours.
