Margaret M. Legenhausen

Margaret M. Legenhausen, 85, of Whitehall, died Jan. 13, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospice, Allentown. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margarete Legenhausen.

She attended Andrew Jackson High School, Queens, N.Y. She graduated from the Norwegian Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Brooklyn and briefly taught there. She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Hunter College, as well as two master’s degrees from Columbia University, one in teaching nursing and the second in nursing administration.

As a commissioned Lutheran Missionary, she spent a total of 14 years in Liberia as the director of nursing for the Phebe Hospital. Upon her return from Liberia, she taught nursing in a hospital program in Queens. Thereafter, she taught at Harrisburg Area Community College and the Allentown College of St. Francis DeSales (DeSales University).

For 21 years, prior to her retirement, she served as the parish nurse educator for The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus.

She enjoyed travel and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand, and Africa. She loved model trains and created a detailed and entertaining model railroad display in her home.
