Macungie borough

At the Macungie Borough Council meeting Dec. 21, 2020, which was held virtually, the current status of the Cotton Street bridge was discussed.

There was a problem with the bid from Grace Industries so the bid was withdrawn. J. Phillips was the second lowest and will now take over.

There is a problem with Race Street where recent repairs occurred.

It appears the road is sinking causing water to pool during heavy rain. It is not known why this is happening and it will be investigated. It could be a sinkhole or a leaky water pipe. This issue was discovered during the recent heavy storms.

An additional repair is needed to the inlet in the same area. It has also been determined the curb height needs to be checked.

The lights for Lumber Street are waiting for some electrical work by public works crews. Once that part is completed, the lights will then be ordered.

A suspect was arrested for a robbery of Turkey Hill. No further details are available at this time.

The stone walls along Main Street near Mountain Creek are being checked. It is not known presently who is responsible for the maintenance of these walls. The history of the walls is being checked.

There is an update on the lighted crosswalk on Main Street. LightGuard is replacing the bulbs since only one is working. There will be no charge for this service, however, Telco will assist. Until these lights are fixed, the sidewalk controls are covered with bags.

Interviews for the borough clerk/assistant treasurer position are occurring. Council wants to interview the top two candidates.

A bank procedure occurred with Robert Glisson removed as signatory and Chris Boehm and Rosemarie Nonnemacher were added.

A request to add a gas line was considered. If there are other neighbors, calls can be made to 800-276-2722 for consideration.

The resident who called upon the borough due to a damaged water was ultimately charged for the extensive repair.

The borough is investigating and will get back to her.

An executive session about personnel followed the meeting.
