Virginia L. Kiefer

Virginia (Ginny) Louis Kiefer, 94, died in her home of 49 years in Wescosville on Dec. 10, 2020. She was the wife of the late Stephen Kiefer who died in 2008. Born in Van Wert, Ohio, she was the second child of the late Joseph and Mildred Olberding.

She was valedictorian of her high school senior class and also lettered in basketball. She earned a degree in business at the University of Michigan. She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.

She was a founding member of Nativity Lutheran Church when the first service was held in the pastor’s living room in the early 1960s. She held various positions and participated in numerous church activities as the church grew. She was a choir member for over 50 years.

She volunteered at the Good Shepherd Home. She and her husband delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years and worked with the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank. She was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Women. She loved to read and was a member of the book group. Her other hobbies included golf and gardening. An annual highlight was vacationing with family at Pawleys Island, S.C.

She was a superb cook and enjoyed baking and decorating cookies with her granddaughter through the years.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Ellen Finch, of St. Louis; a daughter, Holly and her husband, Donald Scofield, of Columbia, S.C.; a son, John and his wife, Patti, of Freeville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Allison and her husband, Ben Jung; a great-granddaughter, Arielle, of Berlin, Germany. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol and a sister, Jo Grove.

Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the church or to Meals on Wheels.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring at Nativity Lutheran Church.
