Lois Burmeister

Lois Burmeister, 86, of Allentown, died Dec. 18, 2020. Born in Palisade, Minn., she was a daughter of the late Ivan H. and Anna (Ihle) Burmeister.

She devoted 39 years of service within the Lutheran Church. She worked for four years as a field missionary in Africa and then was assigned to the financial department in New York City at the headquarters office for the Lutheran Church in America.

In 1988, when the LCA combined with the American Lutheran Church she moved to the newly formed Chicago headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) as director of financial services where she managed to merge the two separate ALC and LCA financial divisions into one financial system.

After retirement, she moved to the Allentown area and completed travels to all seven continents. She saw Northern lights near the Arctic circle and penguins swim in Antarctica. She climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, walked the Great Wall in China and visited her ancestry in the Scandinavian countries and Europe.

Contributions may be made in her name to The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus, 18049.

A memorial concert will be held at Luther Crest, Allentown, in the future.
