Holiday decorating contest in the works

Catasauqua and North Catasauqua boroughs are hosting a 2020 holiday lights contest. All residents and businesses in either borough are encouraged to decorate the exterior of their homes and businesses and join in the fun.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three displays receiving the most votes in the following categories: It’s a Wonderful Life - classic, Victorian, traditional display; Charlie Brown Christmas - most animated, kid-friendly display; How the Grinch Stole Christmas - brightest, loudest display; and Home Alone - most creative display.

Decorations may be submitted by groups, such as schools, churches, clubs, etc. All decorations must be outside or visible from the outside.

To take part in the contest, entry forms must be emailed to Halloweenparade@catasauqua.org, and all entrants must send two photos of their display - with name and address - to 484-809-0528 by 6 p.m. Dec. 9. Entry forms can be found at the 2020 Catasauqua/North Catasauqua Halloween (Un)Parade website, as well as at catasauqua.org and northcatasauqua.org.

Photos may be taken day or night. Videos will not be accepted. If unable to access a computer or text, contact the number previously listed for assistance. Participants must select one category to be judged in.

Volunteers will be delivering yard signs Dec. 10 and 11 to entrants. Displays will be posted on Facebook. A map of the displays will be available the week of Dec. 14.

Voting will be open Dec. 12-20. The contest ends noon Dec. 20. The winners will be contacted, and results will be posted Dec. 20.

The voting will take place on Facebook and will be judged by the number of “likes” each photo receives. In the event of a tie, the committee will make the final choice.

All participants will receive a goody bag when the volunteer drops off the yard sign.

Prizes include a $100 gift card and Santa sack for first place, a $50 gift card and filled stocking for second place and a $25 gift card and a treat-filled Christmas bag for third place.

Event sponsors include Barry Lovelace Athletic Training, Biery’s Port Auto Works, Blocker’s Coffeehouse, Catty Beverage, Daku’s Auto Body Shop, Gas House Dance Hall, Hartzell’s Pharmacy, Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, Lehigh Valley Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Melvin’s Farmstand, Mike’s Notary, Pie’s On Pizzeria, TnD Auto and Witt’s Tree Service.

This event is brought to you from the same organizers who planned the 2020 Catasauqua/North Catasauqua Halloween (Un)Parade. The committee is planning a name change in 2021 - the Promote 18032 Committee.
