Moore Twp. seeks to replace generator

At the Nov. 5 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, township Manager Nicholas Steiner said a third quote is being pursued to replace the current generator. The generator must have capability to power the municipal and police department offices.

Also, public works leaf collection will continue until mid-December, weather permitting.

The First Regional Compost Authority is reportedly open. Residents should visit frcaweb.org for the hours of operation. Fall is a good time to compost a garden or flower bed, it was noted.

The recreation committee plans to turn on the football field lights at the township recreation complex 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays to allow residents to walk or jog around the track for exercise.

The supervisors approved the purchase of a swing set and a jungle gym apparatus for the recreation center playground. It is expected playground equipment prices may be discounted during end-of-the-season sales. Steiner noted there is a Richard Haupt Fund bequeathed to the township that may assist the purchase.

Chad Brandon was appointed to the historical commission board. Brandon is community-spirited and reportedly donated the slate roof for the historic Edelman School.

Moore Township Land and Environmental Protection Board announced an appraisal was provided for $88,000 for about 14.7 acres for a conservation easement. The appraisal was approved by the supervisors.

The Community Days Committee reported the Halloween trunk-or-treat event was a success. The turnout was good, prompting Supervisor Richard Gable to add, “I thank Community Days for doing this for the kids.”

In his solicitor report, David Backenstoe presented a comprehensive resolution for the tax collector for the supervisors to review, delete or amend any items they wish. Supervisor David Shaffer said the board wanted a resolution that contained only the tax collector salary. Backenstoe replied he presented the most comprehensive resolution regarding the tax collector for the board to review and decide what they want in it.

Steiner requested the meeting for final adoption of the 2021 budget be 5:30 p.m. Dec. 22. The board approved the request.

The next Moore Township Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is 7 p.m. Dec. 1. It will be a virtual meeting.
