LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Salisbury High School to host blood drive Nov. 11

Quickly, before getting into this article, I’d like to say Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all of our veterans for putting your life on the line and sacrificing for this country and for the protection of others. You are greatly appreciated. Once again, thank you for your service.

This week we have some upcoming events, fundraisers and scholarship opportunities for students, families and the community to take advantage of.

Salisbury High School will hold a blood drive noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 11. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 42 appointments are available. To schedule an appointment, contact Megan Basile or Baxter Reihman.

Attention all juniors and seniors – there are two more scholarship opportunities available to you. The B. Davis Scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors. There is no age restriction; include your name and school you are attending. This is not an academic scholarship, but include future academic plans. To apply for this scholarship, students must write an essay no less than 1,000 words on the following prompt: “Describe the three characteristics of leadership you value most. Discuss why you believe these traits are so important and how you feel they are developed in an individual.”

All essays or questions can be submitted to awards@studentawardsearch.com. Those who are granted this scholarship will receive $1,000.

The second scholarship opportunity is the 2021 Pennsylvania American Legion 86th Annual Essay Contest. Students must write an essay no less than 500 words but no greater than 1,000 words answering this question: “What does the 26th Amendment mean to me?”

The deadline for this scholarship is Jan. 9, 2021. The first place winner will be awarded $3,500, a plaque and a trip to the PA American Legion Convention in July 2021. The second place winner will be awarded $3,000 and a plaque. The third place winner will be awarded $2,500 and a plaque. It never hurts to apply for these scholarships; for all you know, you may receive a decent amount of money to put toward college or future goals.

The Class of 2022 is holding a gift card fundraiser. This is a wonderful way to support the Class of 2022 while getting great gifts for the upcoming holiday season. All purchased gift cards will be delivered before winter break. All orders and payments should be sent to or dropped off at the high school office specifically addressed for Mrs. Butterbaugh. All orders are due by Nov. 13.

Boys soccer is selling limited edition Salisbury Strong Kicking COVID T-shirts. The T-shirt can be purchased with cash or by check made payable to Salisbury soccer. T-shirt sizes include medium, large and extra large and 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the boys soccer program. T-shirts can be purchased by sending an email to raymondsathome@gmail.com or contacting any member of the boys soccer team. Show some Falcon Pride!

Winter sports will be beginning this month. Athletes looking to participate this season must have completed a physical and/or impact testing or filled out a recertification form before participating in practice.

That’s all for this week; stay tuned for more student news.
