The Izaak Walton Rod and Gun Club, 2181 Wehr Mill Road, South Whitehall, had a charity archery shoot Sept. 5.

The program was initiated by Riley Knecht, a freshman at Salisbury High School.

Knecht’s benefit archery shoot raised $2,025.00 for the Allentown Rescue Mission.

According to information provided by the Rescue Mission, Knecht was first introduced to archery at age 6 by her father.

Even as a child, she loved the skill and focus the sport demanded. So when she contemplated a way to give back to her community, archery felt like a natural choice.

Forty-eight shooters participated in the benefit, and many others gathered to watch and enjoy the refreshments and basket raffles.

“It was a great day, the weather was beautiful, and the turn-out to support the Allentown Rescue Mission was awesome,” said Riley’s dad, Adam.

The Izaak Rod and Gun Club extended the hours of the shoot to avoid overcrowding and to maintain proper social distancing.

Knecht, also Miss Mid Atlantic Jr. Teen and is on her way to compete in the national event.

The mantra of American Beauties is “Crowned to Serve.”

Knecht uses her talents as a competitive archer to spread her message of service to families in need.
