Salisbury announces first day of school Sept. 8

On Aug. 19, the Salisbury Township School Board voted to start the school year virtually. Because of this decision, we have a new timeline for the beginning of the year.

Unfortunately, orientation for student in kindergarten and grades five, six and nine has been canceled. Device and materials can be picked up between noon and 7 p.m. Sept. 2 and 3. Each school building will have its own curbside pick up. If you have students in different buildings, you will need to go to each school.

The first day of online learning for all students will be Sept. 8.

The South Mall on Lehigh Street will hold a sports card show Sept. 4-6. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5 and noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 6.

Have you ever heard of the Sunflower Experience? Me neither. Grim’s Orchard and Family Farm, in Breinigsville, is inviting you to walk around their sunflower field any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. For a small fee, you can walk around the field of sunflowers and take as many photos as you want and even get to take a flower home. For information, call 610-395-5655 or visit grimsorchard.com.

Have you ever gone hiking at Hawk Mountain in Kempton? Now is the time to go. From now until Dec. 15 is the annual Autumn Hawk Watch. It is prime time to see hawks fly by during their seasonal migration. Staff members are on hand to help you find and identify birds. For more information, contact The Hawk Mountain Sanctuary at 610-756-6961.

Salisbury Township drop-off centers are open on alternating weeks. Devonshire is open the week of Aug. 31 and Franko the week of Sept. 7. The centers are open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
