Truck fire draws multiple fire departments

PRESS PHOTO BY TIM SINGLES Firefighters from Western Salisbury, Eastern Salisbury and Lower Macungie fire departments respond to a reported tractor trailer fire on Interstate 78 west around 7:30 a.m. July 30. Lehigh County 911 initially reported a tractor trailer rollover with fire and possible entrapment. Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joshua Wells was first on scene and reported a box truck on its side fully involved. The driver was no longer trapped in the truck but was reported to have serious burns, was treated by medics from Cetronia Ambulance Corps and taken to the hospital. All lanes of Interstate 78 westbound were closed until the fire was brought under control. After the fire was extinguished, Pennsylvania State Police opened two left travel lanes. Fire police from Eastern Salisbury Fire Department were also on location to assist with traffic control in the area. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
