Cementon/Egypt: VFW Post 7293 closes bar, kitchen

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, Egypt, has closed its doors to all bar and kitchen activities until current restrictions are lifted.

“With the recent restrictions placed on us by our governor, as a private club, it is not profitable to keep the Post open for business at this time,” Post Commander Brent Fenstermaker said. “We have tried to meet the guidelines and restrictions, keeping the Post clean and sanitized, as well as maintaining a positive and enjoyable atmosphere, but with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, our members haven’t felt comfortable socializing at this time, and we are seeing this impact the overall financial stability.”

Fenstermaker said the decision to close was made after consulting with other VFW posts and veterans clubs in the Lehigh Valley and learned that many of them are closing their doors as well.

“The board is still going to honor our rental agreements and the agreements with other military organizations that call our Post home,” he said. “We will still hold our monthly active and auxiliary meetings and our intentions are to still provide some sort of membership appreciation event Aug. 29.”
