Baseball action returns to the Lehigh Valley

Editor’s note - the online version of this story was updated from our print edition.

Freedom all but locked up a spot in the knockout round of the Lehigh Valley Baseball Tournament on Monday, as the Patriots jumped out with two wins over Bethlehem Catholic and Catasauqua.

The Pates topped the rival Hawks 10-3 and then shut out Catty 10-0, as they head into Wednesday’s lone matchup with Liberty at 7pm at Freemansburg.

They had big days at the plate from Case Horwath, Zion Frailey, AJ Maffea and Garrett Glick.

“It was great to see these seniors out on the field playing with their teammates,” said Pates head coach Nick D’Amico. “We had high expectations this year and these kids want to prove that to everyone.”

The Hurricanes defeated Bethlehem Catholic 6-4 on Monday, as Parker Fry got the win on the mound for Liberty.

Liberty will play Catasauqua at 4pm Wednesday, followed by their nightcap with Freedom, as both schools appear primed to take the top two spots to advance to the round of 16.

The knockout rounds will take place on Friday and the semifinals will take place at 1pm and 5pm at Coca-Cola Park on August 9. The championship game is set for August 10 at 5pm at Coca-Cola Park.
