Cozze appointed to PA Election Law Advisory Board

Governor Tom Wolf recently nominated Northampton County Registrar of Elections Amy Cozze to represent the 7th Congressional District to the Pennsylvania Election Law Advisory Board. The appointment is pending confirmation by the Pennsylvania State Senate.

PELAB, established on March 27, via Senate Bill 422, collaborates with agencies and political subdivisions to study election-related issues and identify best practices to ensure voting integrity. Membership includes one representative from each of Pennsylvania’s 18 congressional districts.

Grennan’s posters recognized

Meaghan Grennan 20 made coronavirus awareness posters as part of the Artistry Collective Club at Northampton Community College’s Monroe Campus this past spring. The posters hung across campus and were displayed virtually on NCC social media channels.

Professor Alma Barrantes, advisor to the artistry collective, came up with the idea to edit World War I posters to reflect a current crisis. The plan was for interested club members to create one or two posters each that would then be circulated around campus, spreading awareness of coronavirus.

Tau Gamma inducts locals

Northampton Community College inducted several local residents into the Tau Gamma Chapter and Beta Beta Chi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges. The Bethlehem Campus ceremony was held June 17 via Zoom. This year’s keynote speaker was NCC graduate Jose Ruiz, a former Tau Gamma chapter member and 2019’s International Most Distinguished Member Award winner.

To qualify for membership, inductees must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average and be enrolled in an associate degree program.

Muhlenberg Phi Beta Kappa inductees

Bethlehem area residents Kylee Jacoby and Patrick Kantner were inducted into Muhlenberg College’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s most prestigious honor society for undergraduates in the liberal arts and sciences, in a June 15 virtual event.

Established in 1776 at the College of William and Mary, Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) is a distinguished fellowship of scholars devoted to liberal education and intellectual pursuits. Muhlenberg College was granted a charter from the national organization in 1967.

McKitrick joins student nursing assoc.

Katelyn McKitrick, of Bethlehem, was a member of Alvernia University’s Alvernia Student Nursing Association while studying nursing during the 2019-20 school year.

The A.S.N.A. promotes academic and professional growth in nursing education as well as a greater understanding of the nursing profession throughout the university and the community, and develops leadership skills.

Handlon authors wellness book

The president of Handlon Business Resources and area resident Sally Handlon has authored the book, “Your Journey to Aging Well.” Momosa Publishing released the book to the public as of May 15.

Active in Lehigh Valley business and non-profit communities for over 40 years, Handlon’s book is a result of 30 years of herbal and nutrition studies. It shares basic information that can benefit any reader, leader or business owner age 50 and older as well as younger adults.

Anderson new Truth for Women CEO

Truth for Women, Inc., a Lehigh Valley nonprofit organization providing sanctuary and emergency stabilization to survivors of sex trafficking, hired Carol Andersen as its new CEO. She is a trained trauma-informed crisis counselor for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; and a trained facilitator for “Ending the Game” education series.

She is the executive director of Bloom, a nonprofit that operates a residential program for women in Bangor. She is the co-chair of Lehigh Valley Anti-Trafficking Week 2020.
