Former Catasauqua restaurant owners open new eatery in Northampton

Excitement was in the air when the former Miller’s Diner, having closed more than three years ago, reopened June 26 as Northampton Diner and Family Restaurant. The diner has a new name, new owners and an expansive menu to delight the palates of its patrons at the 1205 Main St. site.

The new owners, Lisa Haynos and Manuel Castaneda, bring with them restaurant experience that includes the operation of the former Bridge Street Family Restaurant in Catasauqua and the head chef position at an Allentown diner.

The Friday opening for the Northampton eatery coincided with Pennsylvania moving to the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan. In the green phase, restaurants are able to have patrons dine indoors.

The borough health inspector and board gave their approval for the opening following a final inspection, after which the borough ordered a certificate of occupancy.

The restaurant features a large variety of seafood, Italian dishes, steaks and ethnic food, such as halupkies, stuffed peppers and goulash. The menu boasts broiled, baked and fried dinners.

In addition, there will be breakfast served from its 6 a.m. opening until the 10 p.m. closing. There may be expanded hours on weekends in the future.

Northampton Family Diner and Restaurant has seating for 130 patrons, which includes counter service with stools. The restaurant employs part-time and full-time staff of 25 employees, such as servers, cooks and other personnel.

A large parking area near the Main Street restaurant is available to its clientele.

Donald Miller opened the first restaurant on that site in the 1950s. Over the years, it has had several other owners.
