Lehigh County Commissioners had a quiet time of it July 8 as they held their meeting without the coronavirus related-political drama that they have faced recently. Instead, routine business dominated the meeting.

Commissioners extended the state of emergency related to the coronavirus pandemic until Sept. 15. There were no public objections offered.

Commissioners approved, for $1, the transfer of an easement to the Borough of Catasauqua for the purpose of widening Race Street so that a water line can be relocated.

They also approved an agreement with Skanska Building USA Inc. to provide construction management services associated to the Old Courthouse Building renovations project.

Commissioners also approved a change to the Lehigh County Home Rule Charter to authorize remote meetings using computer technology.

Also approved were the distribution of Community Development Block Grants to several jurisdictions and non-profit organizations.

Among these were Borough of Emmaus which gets $32,000 for Curb Cuts; the Borough of Fountain Hill Rescue gets $200,000 for water pumper replacement of the borough’s 26-year-old fire pumper with a 2020 pumper. This may be applied to the estimated cost of new pumper which is $362,950. The Borough of Slatington gets $91,895 for two ramps, curbing, and sidewalks on East Church Street From 1st Street, 400 feet towards Walnut Street.
