Northampton Recreation Center, 1 Lerchenmiller Drive, will reopen July 13. The center had earlier opening dates set, but a new schedule for its opening has been made by Northampton Borough.
The recreation center director, Jason Kremus, said there will be no daily admissions at this time, and members should visit the borough’s website for details regarding procedures and COVID-19 guidelines.
In other news, Northampton Borough Council has approved Northampton Exchange Club’s annual Jack Frost Parade in October. The final decision to move ahead with the parade depends on participation by high school bands and other organizations that make up the large parade.
Additionally, the borough approved a request from Northampton Banquet and Event Center’s board of directors to defer its rental payment of $5,000 per month until such time when they are allowed to resume business. They are not asking this money be forgiven but simply deferred. The money received from the banquet and event center goes in the recreation fund.
Northampton Police Department has awarded two scholarships from the scholarship fund. They were delivered to Zachary Bula and Miranda Heffelfinger by Ryan Brobst, Northampton Area High School guidance counselor. Each scholarship is worth $500.
